    Born and raised in Denver, Matt Skellenger has been composing, performing, recording, and teaching in Colorado for 33 years. Matt earned a B.A. in Music from Metro State University in 2002 where he studied with the great Ron Miles. Ron was an original member of Skellenger’s group from 2006-2014. This one-of-a-kind quartet performs Matt’s original music. The music blends jazz, world, funk, rock, and fusion influences to create a sound unlike anything you have heard.

    This energetic modern jazz quintet takes its name from the system by which it operates, allowing each member to contribute to its constantly expanding body of original compositions. Its members are in high demand on the Colorado music scene and have collaborated with many great artists from around the world. The Democracy was awarded a Pathways to Jazz grant to record its self-titled debut album, recently released its second album, "Second Term" and has been entertaining audiences in venues and festivals since its formation in 2016, constantly evolving with forward looking compositions and exciting interaction among its members.

  • Matt Skellenger Group Plays the Music of Ron Miles

    Born and raised in Denver, CO., Matt has been composing, performing, recording, and teaching in Colorado for 33 years. Matt earned a B.A. in Music from Metro State University in 2002 where he studied with the great Ron Miles. Ron was an original member of the Skellenger group from 2006-2014, and he is featured on the group's first 3 albums. Matt has also studied with world renowned bassist and educator Victor Wooten. In addition to leading his own group, Skellenger performs in solo, duo, and trio formats. He is also a member of the Grown A$$ Man Band. Matt has been a music teacher at Swallow Hill since 2008. Matt Skellenger Group has released 8 albums of original music.

    This concert will feature music composed by Ron Miles. The group is joined by special guest Roger Green for this concert. Green and Skellenger played together as members of the Ron Miles Blossom band from 2008-2009.

    Roger Green is a Denver-based songwriter whose work blends folk forms with experimental sound and richly textured guitar music. A longtime contributor to the Denver music scene, he was a member of The Czars (1997–2005). He plays guitar on the Blossom album by Ron Miles and has produced albums for Anne Waldman, Joe Sampson, and Esmé Patterson. Along with numerous solo albums, he regularly plays guitar with Porlolo. A live recording of Roger with Ron Miles is available on his Bandcamp page.

    This 21-piece big band featuring some of Colorado's finest players is excited to present its 12th annual holiday show at Dazzle. The show is a celebration of the group's 3rd release, a live album recorded at the Mercury Cafe in 2024 and 2025. The band plays original compositions and arrangements in a broad diversity of styles, including swing, Afro-Cuban, and hip hop. The Republic's first studio release Grass Is Greener is available on Dazzle Recordings and its second release, Live at the Mercury Cafe is available here.
